Artist's Comments

My first try at cell shading. The original drawing was stolen off of Google, and I computerized and cell-shaded it. It's a pic of Holland from Eureka 7. Episode 10, I do believe.

GIVE ME CELL SHADING ADVICE! I shaded in where-ever I would of shaded of it were a normal piece. Is that ok?

Not sure I'd be able to give you any tips. I use an extremely primitive from of cel shading myself. Your pic looks good though.

Vedy vedy nice

And ye want cell shadind advice?

Hmm....

Well, for colouring I make one layer for each colour. Makes it easier to go back annd editif you notice something wrong with one colour and don't have to mess up all of them.

Best I can think for shading, is layers and lasso tools are my best friend.

I use the lasso selecting the parts I want painting over only the part I want so I don't have to go back over and over fixing minor mistakes.

I make a new layer and call it "darks" then right click tht layer to blending options>blend mode>multiply. Using the same colour you want to shade(use eye dropper if neccasrry) colour over the parts you want shaded and you'll notice that this colour even though the same colour, is darker.

For highligts and shiney things like hair and such, I make another layer and call it "lights" then do the same a little diffrently going to blending option>blende mode>screen. Get the same colour as before, and painting over it should look lighter.

And of course, save a PSD if ever you save a JPEG of your doodle for you never know if you wanna go back and fix mistakes or make your picture better ^^

Hope that helped ya out a bit,

-DJ

Oh...you do it all fancy.

I only one layer, but it worked out fine. I just made sure I used the pencil tool, not the brush tool. That way the paintbucket could fix any large mistakes.

And for the actual shading, I took a bright pink color and drew where I wanted the edge of the shading to be. Then I just Paintbucketed the pink line and the area I wanted to shade.

Thanks for your help! I might try something a little more complicated next time

Oh, is *where* I shaded the picture OK?
